More from Morton Arboretum's Illumination on November 30, 2017. I called this the Split Personality Tree because of the multi-color illumination. I spent about ten minutes admiring the tree's shape and texture, and watching the colors change. It was a challenge to get the right timing and capture distinct colors. I was happiest with the magenta, blue, and green. What do you think? #MortonArboretum #HolidayLights #Illumination #Photography #NightPhotography #MAPS

Stop Two on the visit to Morton Arboretum's Illumination on November 30. Just around the bend from Meadow Lake was a group of trees lit up by a series of blue, red, and magenta lights. The moon was a few days away from fullness, and at this point was "in play" with the tree branches. I was happy to have captured it before it moved up higher in the sky. #Illumination #MortonArboretum #HolidayLights #MAPS #Photography #NightPhotography "Illumination: Tree Lights at Morton Arboretum" is a magical winter experience that celebrates nature with light, music, and special sound effects. Since its beginning in 2013, it has evolved and expanded each year. Since this was my first time, everything was exciting and magical. I shared the one-mile walk with about thirty other photographers from MAPS (Morton Arboretum Photographic Society) and a few thousand others who enjoyed this very interactive experience. I captured this image just past the entrance to Meadow Lake Magic, a combination of ever-changing colored lights illuminating the trees + reflections on Meadow Lake + running dots of lights across the lake. #Illumination #MortonArboretum #MAPS #photographicSociety #HolidayLights #Trees #Reflections Pink moon 2017, approximately 99% waning on April 11. Looked outside a little before 10 pm to see the moon dancing between the clouds. Threw a long lens on the camera and ran out to the front yard to see what I could get. Took about 18 shots, most hidden by the clouds. Hand-held; no time to grab a tripod. This was my favorite. #FullMoon #NightSky The Survivors: a tribute to nature's resilience. Thanks to Helix Camera and Video in Itasca for hosting a Nature Photography class on March 31 and subsequent photo walk on April 1; and to the guys at Tamron for bringing along a selection of their lenses for us to try out. "The Survivors" was captured at Springbrook Nature Center in Itasca on April 1, with a Canon 5DMii, and Tamron's SP90 mm Macro Lens. Creative touches applied in Lightroom, Photoshop, and onOne Software. #MyCreativeVision #Flowers #Macro #Photography #FineArt Waiting for that magic moment when the fall colors peak, the trees still hold most of their leaves, and the dramatic light at sunset adds that special glow. I was happy to get two out of three this past weekend on the east side of the Morton Arboretum. There's still some color left - grab it while you can. Or as Henri Cartier Bresson calls it "The Decisive Moment." In this case, it was the sunset at Warren Dunes State Park, on the western edge of Lake Michigan. On a recent outing with friend Noriko Buckles, our sunny Chicago skies turned to cloudy overcast and cool rainy/windy weather as we entered into Michigan. We pushed on to the Dunes and set up our gear, with cameras pointing to the west. There was a band of clear sky between the clouds and the Lake, and when the sun dropped down into the space, it gave off a wonderfully warm glow that hit the white caps, the sandy beach, and the stretch of grasses in between. Although there were other colorful displays playing off the clouds, the warm glow lasted only a few minutes, and this was my favorite of the group.
